Lessons From Entertaining A Special Ed Group

A special artform makes it to a daycare school for adults with various mental, emotional and physical handicaps. The one-hour bubble show was presented the winter of 2018.  The auditorium was spacious and ideal for a musically choreographed liquid art bubble show. It was a big hit! The audience was very excited, kind and fully engaged. Giggles, shouts of awe and sounds of approval were constant. The staff was equally curious and engaged.

What I enjoyed most was intense joy, happiness, and satisfaction each attendee exuded when being put in a bubble.  When I reacted to that joy it became more contagious, physically and vocally. We literally had to tear ourselves from them when our performance time ran out. This was the most gratifying experience of our performances to date.

After the show, there was a certain calm that permeated the building. The overall acceptance and reaction is one I think to be worthy of further study.

The Ecstasy Of Life and Water

I am reminded of a story many have experienced in the west. The rain has not come for several weeks. The air is dry and dust rolls over miles of dry, lifeless and cracked land once used for farming.
Many have migrated north east. Others with no place to go remain, frantically fighting fires as the brittlebush and tumbleweed become wicks and ignites into flames under the scorching heat of the sun. The water is gone.  Nothing is left to consume. Life comes to slow end.

The sky darkens. It is not a dust bowl. Heavy clouds roll in. The welcome smell of moisture fills the air. Suddenly streams of water fall from the sky and smacks the ground. The rain clouds release their storage as ribbons of rain sweep across the plains in a bellow of smoky steam. Gushing water fills streams, rivers and springs to the point of flooding. People once at the edge of despair are suddenly in ecstasy screaming and laughing as they run from their houses arms open wide letting the rain soak in their eyes, faces, and open mouths, enlivening their once dried out bodies. Days later new life springs. Migrating animals return and the business of life begins again.

Celebrate Life

It's time to celebrate life giving water! What better way to do that than a pool party, backyard water hose games, a trip to the beach or water sport activities. Sheer joy!

Their is a similar reaction when adults and children behold for the first time another miracle of air and water. The amazing sight of giant translucent, luminescent rainbow colored bubble art form floating in the air. Imagine seeing an 8 foot long 4 foot wide bubble floating by glistening in the sun and flashing the most brilliant colors you've ever seen.

Best Bubble Show Ever

We did not become bubble entertainers overnight. It was a gradual process that began with a few simple jars of bubble solution and hand-sized wands. Soon it grew into something else. A desire to hand craft bubbles for entertainment.

Multi-Spray Bubble Wand

I got the idea to start handcrafting my own bubble wands last year. My first design was the bubble spray wand. It sprays hundreds of bubbles in seconds with one gust of wind.

Then I designed the hoop wand that creates giant tube shaped bubbles and large bubble balls.

My next creation was the tri-ring shaped wand that generates strong, long reptilian shaped bubbles and large bubble clusters.

We were invited to a Fall Fest last week. The perfect venue to test kids reaction to the new wands. It was a crisp sunny day. I would be competing with enormous moon bounce playsets. One was three stores high. The question that would be answered: Which form of entertainment has the highest fun factor and keeps kids happily engaged longer, the moon bounce playsets or the bubble show?

By 3:30 pm families and their children began to spring from the office building doors and parking lots bursting with sounds of  excitement and awe. Wow! Ooh! Yeah!

This would be our biggest bubble show to date. And what a show it was. Scores of kids came running from all directions to see the spectacle of glistening bubble clusters, gigantic gleaming crystal spheres floating in the air.  They could not resist running over and gazing at the enormity of the glistening bubbles clusters,

Before we knew it there was a tactile hands on affair with bubbles wands waving and beautiful flying crystalline spheres floating everywhere, long tube bubbles and wonderful breezy bubbles sprays all in use by young children, pre-teens and the young-at-heart.

Event adults stopped by to eyeball the bubble floats and try out our circle of brightly colored bubble wands.

Our tubs of bubble juice quickly became frothy tubs of soap suds as kids and parents dipped and shook and wiggled their bubble wands desperate to create their own bubble formations. Laughter and cheers filled the air. Everyone was living in the moment.

As the DJ played our favorite tunes, children could not resist dancing, prancing, running and jumping while reaching out to catch every flying bubble in sight. It was enchanting and wonderful to behold. A fall fest at it's best.
